If you want to build or replace a new deck you must ensure that it is designed and constructed legally.

This usually means that you will need to apply for a building permit. It also means that you will need to have the deck appropriately designed and documented.

Haven Design & Approve can ensure that the design of your new deck meets Victorian building codes and requirements. We will check if the deck is fixed to a building and that the building can support the anticipated structural loads.

Once you have received your plans back from Haven Design, you can apply for a building permit. In Victoria a building permit is obtained from a building surveyor - their responsibility is to check that the design and plans comply with the state building regulations.

If building work is done without a valid building permit the penalty can enormous.

We’re happy to walk you through the process of getting your building permit sorted, or you can get more information from your local council.

And if you’re planning on a DIY job - as an owner-builder you still need to obtain a building permit for the work.

If the building work is valued at over $16,000 you are required to have a registered builder undertake the construction work or you can obtain Owner Builder Consent from the VBA.

Haven Design is committed to providing affordable drafting & expert collaboration to help you through a maze of regulations.
